How K-Pop Helped Her Heal

Video Interview Featuring Tori Do Telling Her Story Of Trauma And Healing

Korean Pop has the power to bring the joy out of people. It can bring out feelings of excitement, sadness, empowerment, and even reassurance. Many listeners and fans find themselves recalling how they feel when they listen to the music from various Korean artists (whether it be boy groups, girl groups, idols, or solo artists).

Fans express on various platforms (Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) how the music has helped them through the darkest of times and shaped them into who they are today. Korean pop songs often have their own unique meaning and message that the artists want to send to their fans. Whether it be about loving yourself or reminding people that its okay to make mistakes, its messages resonates with listeners even if they don’t speak the same language. Because, as RM of the Korean boy group BTS stated, “music and performances transcends language and countries and races”.

Music has the power to heal. Any type of music genre can do so. For college student Tori Do, it was K-Pop that had helped her through a life-threatening traumatic experience. July 6th was the day Do and her friends planned to go to the GOT7 concert in Los Angeles. However, on the morning she was working at a pharmacy, she had been robbed at gunpoint. In this video interview (linked above), she recalls the traumatic moment and how going to the K-Pop concert afterwards helped her heal.
